Fun with Yahoo! Avatars

Avatars are pretty cool. They are little graphical representations of yourself you can use in Internet chats, fantasy sports or any website that uses a profile. Some people use pictures of celebrities or random objects, but some sites let you create your own little icon.

Several years ago I stumbled upon the South Park Studio. This website lets you create cool images of yourself as a South Park character by letting you choose different aspects of your appearance (ie hair, clothes, body). I created a picture of myself as a character and when I began this blog I used it as my profile picture. I even created a santa suit version which I used just recently during the holiday season. There's also a website called StorTroopers where you can create cartoon versions of yourself (seen here). Call me a narcissist, but creating little cartoons of myself is fun and fascinating.

Well, I was playing around on my Yahoo! account and noticed that you can create your own avatars for use with your Yahoo! profile. Needless to say, I was floored. I started playing around with it and you can create some pretty cool stuff. You can create your avatars as anything you want and it doesn't even have to look like you. So, I created a few and saved them as my favorites. Let's take a look, shall we?

This is my normal avatar. I created it earlier last year and I use it as my default. Pretty plain jane, but it looks like me and I like the clubbin' background. This one can go with or without glasses.

Ahh, yes. Everyone, set your faces to ROCKED!!! This avatar is so unbelievably awesome that you can't look directly at it for fear of burning out your retinas. Ladies, try not to lose control and start throwing your panties at the screen. While the gesture is appreciated...and understood...it could be embarrassing for you if you are at work...or your parent's house. As you can see, this avatar is me in an Elvis jumpsuit next to the Las Vegas sign. This is now becoming my default avatar. This will seem familiar to those of you who have seen me in my totally kick ass Halloween costume.

This avatar shows "alternate universe Pax" where I grew up on the "wrong side of the tracks" (FYI...the left side) and I don't "keep my hair clean". Check out that gi-normous dragon tattoo on my arm. On anyone else, that tat would seem cliche, but it looks pretty BAD ASS on me. I might have to make that a reality. Oh, you may be wondering why I'm walking through a pretty, floral arbor...well, obviously, since this is "alternate universe Pax", I'm attending a Sunday afternoon tea at someone's house. Duh. Hope they have blueberry scones.

It seems Yahoo! avatars pretty much have any situation I can think of covered. What if I wanted to see me in an aerobics class wearing red long johns and a sombrero? Ooooooo, Yahoo!, you are good.

How about me in a turkey costume standing on the moon? Well, played, Yahoo!, well played.

It looks like you won this round, Yahoo! Avatar, but I'll be back. I'll. Be. Back.

.................wearing lederhosen, standing next to a unicorn in front of a bunch of lightbulbs? DAMN YOU, YAHOO AVATAR!! DAMN YOU!!

Fun with my Camera Phone.....

Man, camera phones are the greatest. When I'm out and aboot during the day and I see something funny or strange, I can just quickly snap a pic of it to show people later. I've turned the sound off on the camera function so it doesn't even make that tell-tale camera clicking sound when I take a pic. Perfect for crowded areas. I thought I'd show you guys a few of the pics I've taken this week during my adventures. All of the below pics were taken by me on my cell phone, which, by the way, is a Razr V3 (seen left), hopefully to be upgraded to the Samsung Blackjack this spring.

FYI...I play games on my phone, mostly Pocket Yahtzee, so when going to the bathroom with your phone, keep a good grip on it. My phone went diving into the toilet like Greg Louganis yesterday. It even bumped the side of the bowl like Greg. Luckily, it was pre-squeeze cheese, so clean up was less messy than if it had been post-squeeze (you'd be surprised the amount of people that asked).

Anywho...on to the pics!!

Holy crap, what the hell is this guy compensating for? Either this is Paul Bunyon's sweet ride or the owner has the tiniest genitalia on the planet. And he parked it BACKWARDS. For a guy with such small genitalia, he's got some ego.

I was at the Big Lots by my office during lunch and right next door was this Chinese grocery (pictured left). I love fun and different types of supermarkets and groceries so I thought I'd drop in. Maybe I'd find some cool Chinese energy drinks or sodas. I thought it would be fun. I was wrong. As soon as I stepped into the place, I knew I was wrong. First of all, the smell. It was unearthly. At first, it smelled like some old guy's ass (not that I actually know what that smells like, but I can guess). The smell changed and morphed the longer I stayed in this unholy place. The smell was so bad, my entire olfactory system shut down. It was like Cherynobyl in my brain, a complete meltdown. My eyes were burning, I couldn't breathe, and I wanted to cry. I walked around very quickly trying to catch my breath and I noticed I was the only "westerner" in there. Everyone else is Chinese, and old. Not just old, but ANCIENT. We are talking hieroglyphics old. So, now I'm scared. I'm afraid the Akuza (they are Japanese, I know) are going to jump out and turn me into Today's Special. So I hightail it out of there. Walking out I noticed there was like one register open and the chick was doing her nails. So strange...yet wonderful. I will never set foot in this place again, but I will speak of it often.

Hogly Wogly?! Come on, dude. You can't do any better than Hogly Wogly? How about Cowsy Wowsy? Birdsy Wirdsy? Piggly Wiggly....wait.

This is a public service announcement. If you are going to mix absinthe and lemonade, be prepared for the very real possibility of a cross dressing transvestite waking you up in the middle of the French Quarter without your pants on.

Or so I've been told.

DEAD. SEXY. You know it, and I know it.

It's December already?! Can you believe it?! Time has FLOWN by. Holiday season is upon us. Have a great weekend everyone and get your Xmas shopping done.

Remember, I want a Samsung Blackjack.

Decadence: Ice Cream Orgasms

Sooooooooooo, even though today is Thursday, I am taking tomorrow off, so you bitches can SUCK IT, today is my Friday. I think I'll spend today talking a little bit about indulgences. There are a few things my wife and I love to indulge in, ice cream being numero uno. Recently a flavor of Haagen Dazs was released that knocked a few of my planets out of orbit. It's called Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Like I just told you in the first paragraph, the wife and I adore ice cream. If we could, we would adopt a little ice cream baby and care for him and love him like the real thing. The only problem is, we'd only last so long before his ice-creamy goodness would lure us into eating him and then we'd be labeled cannibals, which would force us to go on the run. Authorities and bounty hunters would chase after us Fugitive-style until a violent and bloody shootout at an old abandoned warehouse ends the entire ordeal. Gwyneth Paltrow and Anthony Michael Hall would portray us in the TV movie and..........wait, where was I....oh, ice cream. As far as flavors, Steph loves chocolate (the more you can cram into the container the better). Me, I gravitate towards regular vanilla and it's variations (cherry vanilla, chocolate chip, etc).

Earlier this year, Steph and her mother saw a show on Food Network called Scoop which was a reality type show that had people developing the next great Haagen Dazs flavor. The winner turned out to be a British desert called Sticky Toffee Pudding. I was skeptical but Steph convinced me to try it. The verdict? Might be the best ice cream I've ever had. It's tied with Graeter's Chocolate Chip ice-cream at the top of my list of "Ice Creams to Kill Your Parents For" (Just kidding, Mom and Dad.........or am I?). This stuff is phenomenal. If they had it, I'd buy it in giant tubs. I'd purchase extra refrigerators just to be able to hold the giant tubs of Sticky Toffee Pudding I'd buy. My wife said she would bathe in it. I use it as cologne and bathroom spackle. IT'S THAT GOOD. Try it, you'll thank me. Pretty soon you'll be frequenting dark alleys looking for your next STP fix.

Welcome to my world.

Have a good weekend.

Seasonings Greetings

No, that title is not a typo. I got a random little entry today as I'm feeling a bit sassy and I thought I would take you along for the ride. Someone brought in donuts to work today and I had two, so I may be just in the midst of my sugar high, but let's see where I can steer this entry.

I've been thinking about my favorite food seasonings recently. Don't ask me why, it just happens. I don't question it, I just acknowledge and move on. Anyway, my family has always loved pouring extra seasonings onto food for flavoring. It doesn't matter if the food actually needs more flavoring, they do it anyway. You could have Emeril or Wolfgang Puck make the tastiest porkchops or top sirloin steaks and place them right in front of my dad. Without missing a beat, my dad will dumptruck on half a shaker of salt and six cups of seasoning salt. It's something that has been conditioned into me like Pavlov's dogs;

1. Place food in front of me
2. Apply copious amounts of seasoning salt
3. Taste food
4. Add more seasoning salt

In light of my familial brainwashing, there are two seasoning salts that get it done for me and I have used them since I was a kid. The first was introduced to me by my mother and its called Nature's Seasons by the Morton Salt company. This is used on lots of things but the best is to sprinkle this over cottage cheese as a side dish. I always thought it had a weird name though. Nature's Seasons. What's that supposed to mean? This seasoning salt consists of seasonings you can find in nature? Whatever. If one could find this bottle's kaleidescope of tastes in nature, I wouldn't need it in the first place. Maybe the title means that Mother Nature herself uses it on her own food? How awesome is that?

Seasoning number two is Lawry's Seasoning Salt. This one is the far more versatile salt of the two. I use it much more frequently. Like Nature's Seasons, it's also good on cottage cheese, but Lawry's can also be used on beef, veggies, chicken, pork, pizza, mac&cheese, squash, kittens, midgets, those rubber bouncy balls you can buy for a quarter, breakfast cereals, the French and, last but not least, deviled eggs. Lawry's didn't try to get too cute with their name like Morton. Lawry's Seasoning Salt. That's pretty much all you need. This stuff is so good that you could sprinkle a little bit on the table in front of me and I'd spend the next hour trying to lick every last speck off the tabletop. Yes, it's that good. Try it on popcorn, too. I didn't realize that this seasoning comes from an actual restaurant in Chicago. Click the Lawry's bottle to the right to go to the restaurant's website.

Anywhose, hope everyone has a good weekend. Enjoy the time off.

PEACE.

I'm Weird: Mexican Doritos.

As noted earlier, my wife and I got back from a Caribbean cruise for our 5th anniversay last week. The cruise was phenomenal and one of the ports my wife and I stopped at was Calica, Mexico.

While on an excursion, the tour bus stopped at a tiny marketplace where we could go to the bathroom and shop. It was a cool little area with lots of little crafts to look at. What do I get excited about? Not the hand carved stone chess sets or the intricately sewn Mexican blankets. I about lost my composure when I found a snack rack filled with Mexican chips and snack foods. As the title of this article told you, I'm weird. If you've read this blog before, you know that I love finding differently packaged sodas and snackfoods. Just check out the Halloween article right before this. It's a sickness, I know, but I love it. ;)

Anywho, on the aforementioned holy rack of snacky goodness, I found several flavors of Doritos and Fritos that are not found in the US. Check out the two Doritos packages below (queue heavenly music and chorus of angels).

The one on the left is pizza flavored Doritos, which did exist many years ago in the US when Pizza Hut and Doritos partnered on the flavor. It tastes like pepperoni and green pepper based pizza, but there is WAY too much flavor powder in this particular bag. It's overwhelming. It took a bottle of black cherry soda and two waters to get the taste out of my mouth. Yikes. Hope the other one is better. The package on the right is called Incognito, which means mystery, or puzzle. You have to guess the flavor. How awesome is that? They made it a game! There are pictures of limes and red/green chili peppers on the black packaging. The flavor powder is also black. It's kind of cool to look into this bag and see dozens of black death chips staring back at you. As for taste, they taste like limes and chili peppers, which also tastes like many salsas you'll have in the better Mexican restaurants. But there is also a small aftertaste of curry, which is usually found in Indian cuisine. Kudos to my wife for figuring that aftertaste out. Very odd to have that in a Mexican chip, but not unwelcome. It was weird at first, but the more I got into the bag the more I loved it. Much better than expected.

While sneaking around that marketplace I also found two cool sodas. In much of the world they don't label Diet sodas as such. They just call them Light. I found Coca Cola Light, and Pepsi Light.

I don't know about you, but this was so exciting to me. I had actually seen Coke Light many years ago on my first trip to Mexico back in 1999. I had traveled to the East Coast of Mexico to a small restaurant in Rosalita. This was the first time that I had found Pepsi Light, though. Words can't describe it, people.

I want to say that the Coke and Pepsi Light drinks tasted slightly different than regular Diet Coke and Pepsi, but that may be because I drank them in the land of enchiladas and not in the upper 48.

Oh well, I'll leave you with the last two bags I found, 2 flavors of Fritos that are so totally mexican I'm suprised they didn't come packaged with a Corona. Behold Chili & Lime Fritos (left) and Chipotle & Chorizo Fritos (right).

I haven't tasted those 2 Fritos yet, but I will. Don't you worry your pretty little head about it.

Bring on Halloween!!

I have been in a very Halloweeny mood lately (haha...I said weeny!). Part of it started by reading X-Entertainment's Halloween Countdown. Each weekday leading up to Halloween night Matt reviews fun Halloween items like scary masks, food items and movies. It's a ton of fun.

Like Matt, I also love when stores start preparing for the Halloween buying season and put out all their goulish wares. The decorations and varieties of Halloween themed candy always make stores look cool. I especially love it when regular food, candy or drinks change things up and start offering Halloween-specific offerings. Cool items from years past include Mountain Dew Pitch Black, the Jones Soda Halloween Collection and Halloween themed Kool-Aid called Ghoul-Aid. Actually, one of X-Entertainment's favorite things to review are the yearly Halloween offerings of Kid Cuisine microwave meals.

So, needless to say, all of this is putting me in the Halloween mood, and it's not even October yet. Despite that, I found a cool Halloween drink the other day at my local Winn-Dixie and thought I'd share it with you. Feast your eyes below to the terrifying visage of Tropicana Twisters' two scary flavors, Green Ghost and Midnight Storm!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Tropicana Twisters are a very flavorful drink, but usually they are a mixture of two or more juice flavors, hence the moniker TWISTERS. For some reason the "suits" decided to eschew the "two juices twisted into one" idea and are presenting these twisters as solitary flavors; Sour Apple and Grape Thunder. If you are thinking of getting these, be prepared, it's like drinking a truckload of flavored sugar. Very, VERY sweet. The apple and grape flavors are good, but the overall results are like a sugar baseball bat to the tastebuds. The packaging is cool though. And what scary sidedish am I enjoying this afternoon with my creepy sugary juicy liquidy goodness? Why, it's M&Ms Pumpkin Mix!!!

These M&Ms come in orange and black and have cute little jack-o-lantern (or pumpkin) faces on them. They are also filled with peanut butter, not chocolate.

So now that I've made myself sick on apple flavored sugar syrup and peanut butter hard candies, I think I'll adjourn for the day.

Actually, tomorrow morning my wife and I will be leaving for Tampa to board a cruise ship headed to the Western Caribbean. All next week my ass will be drinking umbrella drinks and hanging out with butt-naked freaks. Don't worry, I'll be back, I know you'll miss me. ;)

Lazy Sunday....

It's been a lazy Sunday for us. Actually, it's been a lazy weekend. We celebrated our 5th anniversary on Friday. We grilled steaks and scallops and had many, many cocktails. It was a very fun evening (wink, wink, nudge, nudge...if you know what I'm sayin'....meeeooooww!).

Saturday consisted of clothes shopping, then us getting tired and going home to drink cocktails and watch the movie The Mummy with Brendan Fraser. Last weekend we went to Universal Studios in Orlando and loved riding the new ride, Revenge of the Mummy, based on the aforementioned movie. The experience of that ride made us want to watch the Mummy and its sequel, Mummy Returns, again. So we did. The movie was awesome and we passed out drunk, fat and happy around midnight.

Sunday involved Steph going to her classroom to prepare for Monday and me running a few errands. While out, I discovered the below:

You can understand my fascination. Finding a new flavor of Pepsi is like finding the Fountain of Youth and realizing it's mango flavored. Totally unexpected. Diet Pepsi Jazz?! I mean, really? Black-Cherry-Vanilla Diet Pepsi? Could they have crammed anymore flavors into this bottle? I think not. In case you were wondering, it tastes like creme soda flavored Pepsi. Pretty good, but not good enough to replace regular Diet Pepsi, for me. Definately better than the Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi they released.

Anyway, hope everyone else had a good weekend. PEACE!!!

"Ask me about my wiener!"

Today is Wiener Mobile Monday on the blog. Why, you ask? Because...I answer...I saw the mythical beast in my supermarket parking lot Sunday afternoon, July 23, 2006!

I know, I know, you don't believe me. I sound like one of those crackpots talking about filming bigfoot or coming face to face with the Loch Ness monster or playing poker with the Yeti (FYI...Yeti can't bluff worth a damn), but I have photographic evidence that I saw the hot-doggity awesomeness of the Oscar Mayer WienerMobile!!!

Check out these pics (click on them to go to my photo blog):

Hope these pics brighten your day as they did mine. Nothing gets me excited like pictures of a wiener.......mobile.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Opens Today!!!

Capt Pax Holley and Capt Jack Sparrow...Separated at birth? You decide. If you ask me, I think Capt Jack wishes he had the looks and chutzpah of Capt Pax. But that's just me.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest opens today. Steph and I will probably go see it tomorrow afternoon to avoid the lines. I am really looking forward to this sequel because we loved the first one. As a matter of fact, we tried to rent Curse of the Black Pearl this week and every single copy was rented. EVERY SINGLE COPY. Since the movie is older, Blockbuster kept only 2 or 3 copies. Well, I guess everyone else wanted to see it too, because they are ALL gone. But I'm not just talking about our local Blockbuster, but every Blockbuster in our area. And that's a lot of Blockbusters. As you know, Blockbuster is like the Starbucks of DVDs. There's usually two or three right around the corner...and usually right next to a McDonald's.

I even slummed and went to Hollywood Video to find a copy. Let me tell you, that place is a friggin' HOLE. It looked like a DVD War Zone inside the store. Movies and candy littered the floor, shelves have gaping spaces where there are no DVDs. So much crap on the checkout counter that you couldn't even see the 12 year olds they have working there. Not to mention the fact that the movies weren't in any semblance of order. Oh, the shelves are labeled Action, New Release, Comedy, etc. But those seem to be more like guidelines, and not hard-and-fast categorical titles because the workers just put the stuff back on the shelf wherever they happen to be. You need Smokey & the Bandit? It's in the Drama section. Aliens? Kiddie section. WTF?! And they aren't laid out nicely on the shelf. It looks like a giant dorm room as some are stacked with their backs to the shelf and some are stacked sideways like on a bookshelf. You can forget about alphabetical order. You're lucky the workers can even read the title, much less put it in it's proper alphabetical order. I will NEVER go back to that place. I feel like I need to go to the free clinic and get shots after walking in for 10 minutes.

After all that, the sad thing is, I own Curse of the Black Pearl, but my mom borrowed it and has not returned it. You like apples? How you like them apples?

Anywho, have a good weekend everyone and I'll see you on the other side.

MOVING DAY!!!

Moving Day

My team at work is moving from the main Winn-Dixie headquarters building to a former store location called "Stalag 13" due to its resemblance to a prison. It's bland white with barbed wire fences around the parking lot. Should be interesting.

Update

Got to my new desk at "Stalag 13" and found like 15 magazines in the desk drawer. The magazine titles included Ebony, Essence, Black Entertainment, Oprah and Woman's Day. I did find one copy of PC Upgrade magazine on how to build your own computer. Needless to say that is the only magazine that didn't end up in the circular file.

RateBeer.com Incident

Last year, my friend, Steve, and I joined a website called RateBeer.com. The idea is simple, rate and review beers you drink for everyone to check out. Now, I freely admit that I am no beer enthusiast. My tastes run to the light American lager that true beer connoisseurs hate, a legacy left to me by my father (he still stocks his fridge with Keystone Light and Southpaw). The site is very cool and I enjoy reading the reviews that people put out there. It's amazing how different other people's tastes are from my own.

Steve and I thought it would be fun to rate beers we enjoy and completely tear apart the ones we hate, which, coincidentally, would be completely opposite of everyone else on the website. Check out my beer ratings here. The list should be sorted by my rating, with my favorites at the top. There are just under 40 beers there, click on a few and see how I reviewed them. If you want to see my friend Steve's ratings click here. Our reviews for each beer will be the first one listed underneath the "Commercial Description" after you click on the beer title in the list.

While putting in my ratings, I was messaged through the site by some guy with the handle TAR mocking my ratings. His subject was 'hahaha' and the message said:

Saying Budweiser is beer is like calling Sutter Home or Thunderbird, wine.

I thought this was funny. Knowing I was going to hear from beer snobs like this was why I started rating beers on this site. I thought it would be fun to rip TAR a funny answer:

Just because it's a macro-brew doesn't automatically make it bad. I prefer beer that doesn't taste like warm asphalt poured through an old shoe. I also prefer to be able to pronounce my beer in my native tongue. I'd put Pabst Blue Ribbon against your top beer anyday. If it was good enough for my grandfather and my father, it's good enough for me.

In this reply, I was mocking the guy and his beer choices (which he started), but in a good-natured way. I didn't expect his over-the-top and hostile reply:

First of all, when did I say all macros are bad? You need to learn how to read. Secondly, the example you cite (pouring beer through asphalt, for example) sounds as if you've let that beer alone to affect your overall view of decent-to-good beer, if it was indeed a decent beer that tasted like asphalt. Also, what exactly is your native tongue? Chances are, your ancestors were immigrants. Please don't tell me you're one of those people who claim that this land solely belongs to them. If so, you're all wrong. You wouldn't be here if that was the case. But of course you could never understand the points I'm making since you're a stubborn, non-critical thinker like most dumb males. You probably also watch porn and football and voted for Bush (I'm a Republican, by the way, but if you cannot see that Bush is an idiot, something's worng with you). Don't be a bigot. And as for PBR -- Please give me some specifics on how it compares to Rochefort 10. I've had all those beeers you claim are good, but have you tasted any of my faves? I thought not. Open your mind, dude.

To his credit, he did not say all macro-brews are bad. That was an assumption I made and it was my mistake. He did imply it, though. And even if my ancestors are immigrants, as he proclaims, wouldn't I STILL have a native tongue? And I don't remember claiming that this land, or any land for that matter, "belongs" to me. Wow, TAR is pissed and making wild and unfounded accusations about my person. He goes so far as to call me a bigot, too. Well, TAR, last I checked, you were the one to message me mocking my choice of Budweiser as a good beer. Then when I explained my opinion, you lash out at not only me, but all American males who prefer American macro-brewed beers in general. Now you're doing exactly what you claimed I had been doing, being a bigot. My job here is done.

FYI...I sent a "bridge the gap" email that I usually send to people to shut them up, but I stopped talking to the ass. I haven't really even been to the site again. I prefer wine to beer. It's not that I don't like beer, it's that it bothers my ulcer whereas wine does not. Besides, wine is the thinking man's beer (take that, TAR!).

Buy a box of cookies, lose your soul

I am glad the whole Girl Scout cookie 'sales extravaganza' is over. Seriously. They were pimping those things out like crack rock. I'd go to the grocery store, there are two adults and their kids asking me to buy cookies. I walk THREE STORES TO THE RIGHT to go to Blockbuster Video and there are two more adults and kids asking me to buy cookies. How many places am I going to be harrassed to buy cookies? They are like the mafia. I felt like if I didn't buy at least a box some guy named Vinnie was gonna kneecap me. It got so bad I almost started shopping exclusively at adult bookstores just so I wouldn't see a little girl outside trying to shake me down for some cookies. And I'm not sure how much longer adult bookstores will be safe.

"Hey sailor, looking for a good time? Buy a box of Trefoils and see where the night takes you."

Domo Arigato

Good night tonight. The wife and I went to eat sushi. Had the Dragon Roll, spicy scallop and Rock & Roll Tempura. Very good. Ate WAY too much. Afterwards, we saw 16 Blocks with Bruce Willis and Mos Def. Great acting, much better than I expected. We only saw this because there's not much out we want to see but it was very good.

After getting home from the movie we watched Bing Crosby in Conneticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. Very silly musical. Very light, but enjoyable. Do NOT take it seriously if you see it. Bing Crosby, like Elvis Presley, has to sing about the most mundane events of his day in his movies.
